CS2 Skin Selling Fees: Steam Market vs Third-Party Sites

What each marketplace takes from a sale, what reaches your bank, and how to compare them on one item.

Selling a CS2 skin on the Steam Community Market costs 15% on top of your price: the listing window adds a 5% Steam fee and a 10% CS2 fee to what the buyer pays. The money goes to your Steam Wallet and can’t be withdrawn. Third-party marketplaces take less per sale (Skinport 8%, DMarket usually 2–10%, CSFloat 2%) and pay out cash, with their own withdrawal costs.

The marketplace fee guide keeps the fees our tools use for every marketplace in one table.

Example: a $100 sale minus a 5% seller fee leaves $95; a $2 payout charge leaves $93 before any conversion.

How Steam’s 15% works

Steam adds both fees to the price you ask. If you want to receive $100, the buyer pays $115. If the buyer pays $100, you receive about $86.96 ($100 ÷ 1.15). The Steam fee has a $0.01 minimum, so very cheap items lose a larger share. The “You receive” figure in the listing window is the exact amount.

The Market FAQ sets the other limits:

  • Market sales and purchases go through the Steam Wallet. The money can’t be withdrawn or moved to a bank or another account.
  • A Steam Wallet holds at most $2,000, and one listing can be at most about $1,800.
  • Completed Market transactions are final.

Compare what reaches you, not the headline fee

Example: marketplace A can sell your skin for $100, takes 2% of the sale and then 2% of the payout. You receive $100 × 0.98 × 0.98 = $96.04. Marketplace B can sell it for $106 and takes 8%: $106 × 0.92 = $97.52. The higher fee still leaves $1.48 more. A $2 fixed payout charge at B would drop it to $95.52 and reverse the result.

Net cash = sale price × (1 − selling fee) × (1 − withdrawal fee) − fixed charges

Percentages taken one after another multiply; they don’t add up.

Steam Wallet or cash?

Sell on Steam when you will spend the money on Steam. Valve’s Steam Subscriber Agreement says Wallet funds have no cash value and can’t be exchanged for cash. Turning Wallet funds into cash means buying an item on Steam and selling it elsewhere: two prices and two sets of fees.

Compare fees for your item

The price table shows one item on up to nine marketplaces; switch on “Estimated sale fees” to see the price after the selling fee. The fee comparison calculator runs the same sale through every marketplace. Before you send an item, read the trading safety checklist.
