CS2 GLOSSARY

Sticker Wear & Scraping

Once applied, a CS2 sticker is bound to the weapon forever — you can only scrape it away in steps, and it never returns to inventory.

Applying a sticker in CS2 is a one-way door. The moment it lands on a weapon it is welded to that exact skin forever — no peeling, no reselling, no undo. From there the only lever you control is the scraper, and every pull permanently erases part of the artwork you paid for.

How scraping actually works

A freshly applied sticker sits at full opacity. Each scrape strips one visual layer, leaving the artwork progressively faded, and the final scrape removes it entirely. Nothing is recovered at any stage — the sticker does not drop back into your inventory as a worn item, it simply ceases to exist.

Sticker wear only exists on applied stickers — anything sitting in your inventory is always pristine and fully tradable. Some crafters scrape deliberately, using the faded look as a design choice rather than a mistake.

What application does to value

Economically, applying a sticker usually destroys most of its market value. A typical craft returns just 0–10% of the sticker's cost when you resell the weapon, because buyers price a used craft as skin value plus a small fraction of the sticker — not the two added together.

The famous exceptions run the other way. Iconic tournament stickers — Katowice 2014 holos, iBUYPOWER — placed on a fitting skin can turn the craft into a collector item worth far more than its parts. Those outcomes are rare and pairing-dependent; the default assumption for any craft should be near-total loss.

Price it before you scrape

Because application is irreversible, the decision has to happen before the sticker touches the gun. Sum the skin and every sticker at current market prices, then compare that total against what the finished craft would realistically fetch. If it only returns the usual 0–10%, you are spending purely on personal aesthetics.

Our sticker craft calculator does this in one step — it sums the skin and up to five stickers at live multi-market prices — and the sticker price database shows what each sticker is worth intact, before you commit it to the scraper.

FAQ

Can you remove a sticker from a skin in CS2?

No. Applying a sticker is permanent — the only action left is scraping, which fades and then destroys it. It never returns to your inventory, so there is no way to recover a sticker or move it to another weapon.

Do stickers add value to a skin?

Usually the opposite. A typical applied craft resells for only 0–10% of what the stickers cost, so most of that money is gone the moment you apply. The exceptions are rare tournament stickers like Katowice 2014 or iBUYPOWER on fitting skins, which can make a craft worth more than its parts.

What does scraping a sticker do?

Each scrape removes one visual layer, making the artwork progressively fainter, and the final scrape deletes the sticker completely. Some players scrape on purpose for a worn aesthetic, but nothing is refunded or returned to inventory at any point.
