Inferno Banana Control: Take Space Without Losing the Round

Choose with your partner whether to contest, delay or fall back before contact.

Banana control on Inferno means holding the lane long enough to use it: CTs delay the T push with fire, smoke and a trade, and Ts take the lane step by step to decide on B. Two early CT kills are great, but surviving with information also does the job. Taking top banana as T does not force you to finish on B.

Agree what the B pair is trying to do

Before contact, choose an early fight, a utility delay or a passive site hold. Say who throws first, who keeps a weapon up and where both of you fall back. Two players pulling grenades at the same time hand a fast attacker a free duel.

Use common calls such as logs, half-wall, sandbags and top banana, and check your group's names on the current map. Around B, agree what you mean by coffins, construction, CT and the site boxes. The aim is to name the next fight quickly.

FIG. 1
Two teammates contest a narrow alley while keeping cover and a retreat route.
Plan the contest, delay or retreat with your partner before contact.

CT: buy time without getting trapped

A molotov or incendiary can stop a route, and since 16 July 2025 incendiary fire spreads faster (Valve notes). Ts can still put it out with a smoke (Valve notes) and walk through, so the partner holding a weapon must be ready for that. A smoke of your own resets the fight; keep another grenade for the next contact if the team's buy allows it.

When fighting forward, keep a trade and a retreat path. If your partner dies or is reloading, the plan has changed. Giving ground to a supported site hold is often better than a second isolated duel at sandbags.

Rotating the second B player is a team call based on fresh information. “Banana clear” expires the moment you stop watching it. Say “no contact yet” when that is all you know; a quiet B can still hold players.

T: survive the opening, then take the top

  1. Read the opening utility and do not stack several players in the same narrow damage area.
  2. Wait out, smoke out or bypass the fire, following your team's plan. A good spawn is no reason to run through it.
  3. Clear close hiding spots with a supported player and check where a displaced defender can escape.
  4. Use a called flash for the next contested step, with a weapon up and a trade close by.
  5. At top banana, choose B or keep pressure while the team prepares A, and keep the route controlled while that choice develops.

Commit to B only when the pieces arrive together

Call where the smokes go and who clears site cover; CT and coffins are different problems. If support is still lining up a throw while the entry has already crossed, the utility is wasted. A late switch to A needs someone watching banana while the others move.

Example: the pair survives the early utility and takes top banana, then both turn to join A. CTs retake banana and get information or a flank. Leave one holder, or announce clearly that you are giving banana up so the team knows the risk.

After the plant, banana changes jobs

After a B plant, split coverage between CT/construction and banana instead of everyone watching the same smoke. Keep one player able to fight for the bomb when the retake arrives. On a CT retake, call one shared arrival and flash; a lone rotator through banana can die before the site defender is ready.

Review three moments: first contact, the decision to hold or give ground, and the final hit. Write who could trade and what utility was left at each one.

Valve has reshaped this area before: the 25 April 2024 update removed the overhangs at the bottom of banana and the overhanging building at top mid (release notes), so test older lineups in the current game. Use the grenade method, fund it with team buy planning and check the sequence in a demo.
